The Government of Ghana has received a donation of 2,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser from the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco, in a move aimed at strengthening agricultural productivity and supporting the country’s food security agenda.

The consignment was officially presented at a brief ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, April 15.
Receiving the donation, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, described the gesture as timely and generous, noting that it reflects the strong and cordial relations between Ghana and Morocco.

He said the support aligns with Ghana’s strategic objective of achieving food security, particularly at a time when farmers continue to grapple with rising input costs.
He further disclosed that Morocco has previously made a similar donation and has expressed readiness to support Ghana in local fertiliser production.

According to him, the partnership between the two countries is expanding beyond agriculture to include areas such as visa facilitation and sports development, which are expected to deepen people-to-people engagement.

Morocco’s Ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil, said the latest consignment represents the second batch of fertiliser support to Ghana and underscores the longstanding friendship between the two nations.

She reiterated Morocco’s commitment to advancing agricultural development across Africa, stressing that the donation would help improve farm yields, strengthen resilience in the agricultural sector, and cushion farmers against global challenges including climate change, supply chain disruptions, and increasing fertiliser prices.

She also commended Ghana’s focus on agriculture as a key driver of sustainable economic growth, and acknowledged the role of OCP Africa in coordinating the initiative, supporting farmers, and providing capacity-building programmes.

The Chief Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Khadijah, noted that the donation is a practical outcome of sustained diplomatic engagement between Ghana and Morocco. She emphasised that such cooperation continues to deliver tangible benefits to citizens, particularly in critical sectors like agriculture.

The fertiliser donation is expected to support ongoing national efforts to boost crop production, improve yields, and enhance food security across the country.
