The Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, together with his Deputy, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has paid a working visit to the Tema Port and the Jamestown Fishing Harbour to familiarize themselves with operations and ongoing infrastructure developments at the two key facilities.
The visit formed part of efforts by the Ministry to assess progress on projects aimed at improving efficiency in Ghana’s maritime and fishing sectors.
During the visit to the Tema Port, the delegation inspected dredging works at Terminal 14, which is now facilitating the movement of large vessels transporting clinker, the primary raw material used in cement production.
Officials noted that the dredging project is expected to ease vessel movement and address concerns about prolonged waiting times for vessels at the port, a situation that has been contributing to rising production costs for cement manufacturers.
The team also toured the Jamestown Fishing Harbour, where significant progress has been made to improve facilities for fisherfolk and fish traders.
Among the improvements observed were the provision of a reliable water supply system at the fish market and the installation of a functional ice-making facility to support fish preservation.

In addition, cold storage facilities currently under construction are nearing completion, a development expected to significantly enhance storage capacity for fish products and help reduce post-harvest losses.
Officials indicated that the ongoing improvements at the harbour form part of broader efforts to strengthen the fishing industry and improve livelihoods within coastal communities.
The Deputy Minister for Transport, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, is a distinguished Ghanaian legislator, entrepreneur, and public servant who currently serves as the Member of Parliament for the Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region. She continues to play a key role in supporting government initiatives aimed at improving Ghana’s transport and maritime sectors.
