The Central Committee of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has approved a major restructuring of its national leadership, temporarily handing control of the party to its sixteen regional chairmen.
The decision, captured in a resolution adopted at the party’s national headquarters in Accra, is aimed at ending what the Committee described as ongoing leadership challenges and stabilising the party ahead of a broader reorganisation.
According to the resolution, the regional chairmen will collectively assume national leadership responsibilities over the coming months, with a mandate to steer the party through a transition period culminating in the election of substantive executives at all levels.
Committees Established to Drive Reforms
To support the transition, the Central Committee has set up five working committees tasked with specific operational roles. These include:
- Operations and Special Duties, to be led by Comrade Opare Addo
- Strategy, Planning and Evaluation, headed by Comrade Nana Mireku Tumi
- Organisation, under Comrade Galo Emmanuel
- Legal, Arbitration and Discipline, led by Comrade Wayo-Ghanamanti
- Publicity and Communication, headed by Comrade Ali Dayinday Salifu
The committees are expected to coordinate activities across the regions and ensure the party’s reorganisation efforts remain on track.
Funding and Oversight
The resolution also mandates the regional chairmen to develop and implement all financial and resource mobilisation strategies required for the transition process.
In addition, the newly formed committees are to establish monitoring and evaluation systems to track progress in party development nationwide. Periodic review meetings will be held to assess performance and make necessary adjustments.
Commitment to Party Rebuilding
The Central Committee reaffirmed its commitment to the party’s founding principles and called on all stakeholders to support the implementation of the resolution.
“The Committee urges all relevant stakeholders to ensure the effective and full implementation of this resolution,” the statement concluded.
The resolution was signed by the Head of Publicity and Communication, Comrade Ali Dayinday Salifu.
