Accra, Ghana — The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has apologised to motorists for the inconvenience caused by the ongoing road diversion at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange.

The diversion forms part of ongoing expansion works on the Accra–Tema Motorway aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing road safety along one of the country’s busiest corridors.

In a message shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page, the Minister acknowledged the inconvenience motorists have experienced in recent days and appealed for patience as work progresses.

“These diversions are necessary in the interest of public safety. Please bear with us. Apologies for any inconvenience,” Mr. Agbodza wrote.

The ongoing construction has significantly affected traffic movement around the interchange, resulting in heavy congestion, particularly during peak hours.

Motorists travelling towards Tema, Haatso, Adenta and surrounding communities have reported long delays as traffic is redirected through temporary routes created to facilitate the expansion works.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways says the project is part of broader efforts to modernise key road infrastructure in the capital and ease congestion along the strategic Accra–Tema corridor.

Authorities are urging road users to comply with traffic management directives and exercise patience while construction continues.

When completed, the expansion is expected to significantly improve mobility, reduce travel time and enhance safety for thousands of commuters who use the route daily.
