The Acting Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi M. Gibril, has called for stronger internal systems and stricter discipline within the party, warning that weaknesses in party structures contributes to confusion and inefficiencies.

Mahdi M. Gibril made these remarks during a one-on-one interview on Adwenekasa, a current affairs programme on Original TV/FM, hosted by Kwaku Owusu Adjei, popularly known as Pato.

According to him, political parties win elections through organisation and commitment, not government alone. He stressed that a party with strong policies and functional systems will naturally attract public support.

“We want dedicated people to work for the party at any given time. If we have a good system as a party, people will be there to support us,” he said.

Mr. Gibril noted that grassroots political dynamics change every year, making it necessary for parties to constantly review and strengthen their internal structures. He added that loopholes within the party’s operational machinery must be addressed urgently.

He also emphasised the importance of discipline and strict adherence to decisions taken by the National Executive Committee (NEC). According to him, new guidelines approved by the NEC will be used to regulate party activities from the branch level through to the national leadership.

“You cannot publish anything without the approval of the National Executive Committee,” Mr. Gibril stated, explaining that the measures are aimed at ensuring order, consistency, and accountability within the party.

Touching on internal elections, the Acting Director of Elections and IT disclosed that constituency elections are expected to open in November, adding that preparations are also underway ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Mr. Gibril cautioned that failure to strengthen internal party systems could have serious consequences. Using an analogy, he said, “If the NPP were stronger, it would not be facing the current confusion. You cannot buy a bed, decorate it, and have no room to put it in.”

He concluded by reiterating that party unity, discipline, and strong organizational structures remain critical to the NPP’s future electoral success.
