The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has approved the promotion of 35 police officers for their role in the arrest of suspects connected to the Adabraka gold robbery in Accra.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 15, the Ghana Police Service said the officers were elevated in recognition of their professionalism, dedication, and teamwork during intelligence-led operations that led to the arrests.

The statement noted that the IGP, together with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), congratulated the officers and urged them to regard their promotions as a call to greater responsibility, leadership, and accountability in the performance of their duties.
The Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to recognising merit and rewarding excellence, describing the move as part of efforts to strengthen professionalism, boost morale, and improve effective policing nationwide.

The Adabraka gold robbery occurred in November 2024, when armed men attacked a jewellery shop in broad daylight. Viral videos from the incident showed several heavily built men wielding firearms, firing shots into the air, and loading stolen items, including bags believed to contain cash, into a silver vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said the suspects issued threats to bystanders and scattered some of the stolen money while continuing to fire warning shots before fleeing the scene.

The robbery left at least one person injured after being struck by gunfire. Another video circulating online showed residents rushing the injured victim to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Subsequent police investigations led to the arrest of three suspects, with the promoted officers playing key roles in the operations that resulted in the breakthroughs.
