The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, says government will significantly scale up road construction across the country in 2026 as part of efforts to improve Ghana’s road network.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, January 5, 2026, Mr Agbodza said President John Dramani Mahama has consistently demonstrated his commitment to road infrastructure development and has backed that commitment with funding allocations in the national budget.

According to the Minister, the President has repeatedly highlighted the importance of improving road networks during engagements with stakeholders across the country, making it a key priority of his administration.

“The President has committed to Ghanaians to improving roads across the country. You hear him whenever he meets stakeholders, talking about the networks to be improved,” Mr Agbodza said.

He explained that resources have already been earmarked for the sector, placing a clear responsibility on the Ministry of Roads and Highways to ensure effective implementation of the projects.

“The President has committed resources for these roads to be improved. He made provisions in the budget for the Finance Minister to read. My job is to make sure that the vision of the President comes to pass,” he added.

Mr Agbodza noted that road construction activities will intensify both this year and next year as government works to reduce the country’s road infrastructure deficit.

“I agree with you, this year and next year, we would have to see a lot of work being done,” he stated.

He further revealed that most of the planned road projects have already been awarded, with the Ministry now shifting focus to supervision, monitoring, and quality assurance.

“Fortunately, the core of the projects has now been awarded. It is time for us to focus on the contractors and the consultants to ensure they do good work and that we get value for money, considering the level of investment going into road construction,” the Minister said.

Mr Agbodza assured the public that monitoring of projects will be stepped up to ensure contractors deliver quality work in line with approved specifications.
