Ayawaso East MP Mahama Naser Toure dies after short illness

The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Mahama Naser Toure, has passed away after a short illness. He died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, sources close to the family and Parliament have confirmed.

Mr Toure was serving his fourth term in Parliament and was regarded as one of the experienced lawmakers in the House. Over the years, he played active roles on several key parliamentary committees, contributing to debates and oversight work, particularly in the energy and transport sectors. At the time of his death, he was Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee and a member of the Roads and Transport Committee, the House Committee, as well as the Private Members’ Bills and Motions Committee.

His work in Parliament was largely focused on infrastructure development, energy policy, and constituency advocacy, earning him respect from colleagues across the political divide. He was also known in Ayawaso East for his accessibility to constituents and involvement in community matters, especially in Nima and surrounding areas.

Confirming the development, the Second Deputy Majority Whip, Richard Acheampong, said arrangements were underway for his burial in line with Islamic rites. According to him, Mr Toure is expected to be laid to rest today at his residence in Nima, Accra, in keeping with Muslim tradition.

News of his passing has triggered an outpouring of condolences from fellow MPs, party officials, and constituents, many of whom have described him as a committed public servant and a devoted representative of the people of Ayawaso East.

Further details on funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated by the family and Parliament in the coming days.
