The Government of Ghana has commissioned a new Passport Application Centre in Techiman in the Bono East Region, marking a key step in efforts to decentralise passport services and improve access for citizens.

The facility was inaugurated on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. James Gyakye Quayson. He said the initiative underscores government’s commitment to efficient, transparent, and citizen-focused public service delivery.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Minister outlined ongoing reforms at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed at improving passport administration. He noted that the measures are designed to curb the activities of middlemen, enhance transparency, and restore public confidence in the passport acquisition process. During the ceremony, eight applicants who applied through the Techiman centre were presented with their passports.

The Bono East Regional Minister, Mr. Francis Owusu Antwi, described the commissioning of the centre as a practical demonstration of President John Dramani Mahama’s resolve to bring essential public services closer to the people.

Chairman of the event and Nifahene and Aduanahene of Techiman, Nana Boakye Ameyaw Pentenprem II, commended the government for siting the facility in the region. He highlighted the close link between mobility and economic growth, adding that the new centre would spare residents the cost and inconvenience of travelling to other regions to access passport services.

The Member of Parliament for Sene East, Mr. Dominic Napare, speaking on behalf of the Bono East Parliamentary Caucus, also lauded the government for advancing equity in the delivery of public services nationwide.

The ceremony brought together District Chief Executives, the Regional Coordinating Director, Regional Directors of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department and the Youth Employment Agency, Municipal Coordinating Directors, heads of security agencies, and religious and traditional leaders.
