The Government of Ghana says it will meet officials of the Israeli Embassy in Accra on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, after what it calls the unfair and degrading treatment of Ghanaian travellers at Ben Gurion International Airport.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, seven Ghanaians including four Members of Parliament on an official assignment were detained on arrival in Tel Aviv on Sunday, December 7. The ministry said the group was held without justification.

The MPs were part of a delegation attending the Annual International Cybersecurity Conference. They were reportedly kept in detention for more than five hours and released only after what the ministry described as intense diplomatic efforts.

The other three travellers were deported and have since returned to Ghana.

The ministry condemned the conduct of Israeli authorities, calling it a deliberate targeting of Ghanaian citizens and a breach of the friendly relations the two countries have long enjoyed.

It also rejected claims from Israel that the situation stemmed from a lack of cooperation from the Ghanaian Embassy in Tel Aviv during deportation procedures. The ministry insisted that Ghana’s mission has adhered to all international protocols and called Israel’s explanation baseless.

Government noted that it is reviewing possible reciprocal actions if Israel does not address the matter appropriately.
