Ghana’s Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has participated in the Independence Day celebrations of Guyana, marking another significant moment in Ghana’s diplomatic and international relations engagement.

The celebration commenced with an interfaith thanksgiving service held on the lawns of the State House in Guyana, bringing together leaders and representatives of the Hindu, Muslim and Christian faiths, alongside government officials, diplomats and citizens.

The solemn ceremony highlighted the importance of peace, unity, religious tolerance and national cohesion as key pillars for sustainable national development.

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang joined the President of Guyana, the Prime Minister, former Heads of State and other distinguished personalities at the event, which served as a moment of reflection on the country’s journey, achievements and future aspirations.

The participation of Ghana’s first female Vice President in the international celebration continues to reinforce her growing presence on the global diplomatic stage and her role in strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and other nations.

Following the interfaith service, the Vice President attended a private reception hosted at the residence of the President of Guyana, where discussions and diplomatic courtesies were exchanged in an atmosphere of friendship, cooperation and mutual respect.

Her presence at the event has also been viewed as an inspiration to many women across Africa, particularly young women aspiring to leadership positions in governance, diplomacy and public service.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang continues to break barriers as one of the few women in Africa occupying the high office of Vice President, while championing inclusiveness, education, women empowerment and international cooperation.

Observers say her participation in such high-profile international engagements further demonstrates the increasing role of women in global leadership and decision-making processes.
