
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Naa Momo Lartey, has commended the Nungua Mantse for the successful arrival and sprinkling of the sacred corn as part of activities marking the 2026 Kplejoo Festival celebration.
According to the Minister, the sacred traditional rite, which took place on Sunday, May 24, 2026, represents an important aspect of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and demonstrates the value of preserving indigenous traditions for future generations.
In a statement appreciating the traditional leadership of Nungua, Naa Momo Lartey praised the Nungua Mantse and elders for ensuring a peaceful and successful ceremony, which attracted residents, traditional authorities and cultural enthusiasts from different parts of the country.
She noted that the Kplejoo Festival remains one of the significant traditional celebrations within the Greater Accra Region, promoting unity, cultural identity and community development among the Ga-Adangbe people.
The Minister further emphasized the important role women continue to play in preserving cultural values and strengthening family and community systems through active participation in traditional and social activities.
According to her, women remain central to cultural continuity, peacebuilding and national development, stressing the need to continue empowering women and girls to contribute meaningfully to society while maintaining pride in Ghanaian traditions and heritage.

Naa Momo Lartey also encouraged the youth to embrace and respect traditional customs that promote unity, discipline and communal living.
The Kplejoo Festival is celebrated annually by the people of Nungua to mark their history, customs and spiritual traditions, with the sprinkling of sacred corn serving as one of the symbolic rites of the celebration.
The event formed part of a series of activities lined up for the 2026 Kplejoo Festival celebration and brought together traditional leaders, government officials, women groups and members of the community in an atmosphere of culture and unity.
