The Ministry of Education has approved fees and charges for the University of Ghana for the 2025/2026 academic year, with the Academic Facility User Fee maintained at the same rate as the 2024/2025 academic year.
The approval follows a meeting held on January 8, 2026, involving officials from the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the University of Ghana Council, management and student representatives.
In a press statement signed by the Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Clement Abas Apaak, GTEC was directed to officially communicate the approved fees to the university.

Under the approved structure, students will pay GH₵50 as Student Representative Council (SRC) dues, while the SRC Development Levy has been fixed at GH₵150. Graduate students under the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) will also pay a GH₵250 development levy.
The release further indicates that a GH₵122 Telecel broadband levy will apply across all undergraduate levels, including freshmen. However, the levy is optional, and students must be properly informed of their right to opt out if they choose.
Additionally, a GH₵100 levy has been approved to mark the University of Ghana’s 75th anniversary. The Ministry clarified that this charge is strictly limited to the current academic year and cannot be extended beyond it.
The Ministry stressed that the approved fees and charges apply only to the University of Ghana and must not be adopted by any other public tertiary institution in the country.
Meanwhile, government has set up a Fee Review Committee, chaired by the Deputy Minister, to assess future fee adjustment proposals from public tertiary institutions before recommendations are submitted to Parliament for approval.
The Ministry says the move is aimed at ensuring transparency, affordability and proper oversight in fee determination across the tertiary education sector.
