A tense scene unfolded at the headquarters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Accra on Thursday when the party’s National Vice-Chairman, Alhaji Osman Masawudu affectionately called Chairman Buga Buga, allegedly slapped a party communicator known as Okyeman during a heated exchange in front of national executives.
Eyewitnesses say the altercation broke out during an internal meeting following a press conference. What began as a disagreement over communication strategy and party messaging reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, leaving many in shock.
Attempts by other executives to intervene were initially unsuccessful, though calm was later restored.
While the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear, sources within the party have described the incident as “unfortunate and avoidable,” urging members to maintain unity and professionalism as the NPP reorganizes ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The alleged assault has sparked intense discussion within party circles and on social media, with members calling on the leadership to address the issue swiftly to preserve internal cohesion and discipline.
As of press time, the NPP leadership had not released an official statement on the incident or indicated whether disciplinary action would be taken.
Political observers say the development highlights growing tensions within the party’s ranks as it undergoes post-election restructuring and strengthens its communication
