Richard Cobbinah, popularly known as “Shaka Zulu” from the 2009 hit music video Fresh One by Ghanaian hiplife group 4×4, has been arrested again, this time in connection with alleged land guard operations in Accra.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command confirmed that Cobbinah was picked up on January 10, 2026, together with five other suspects, following a distress call received around 12:30 p.m. Police say the group is being investigated for suspected land guarding and the unlawful possession of firearms.

Cobbinah first gained national attention after his appearance in the widely popular music video, but his rise to fame was quickly overshadowed by criminal issues. In 2010, he was arrested for robbery, and in 2013, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for stealing. He was released in 2024 after serving a reduced term.

News of his latest arrest has triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing disappointment over what they describe as a relapse into criminal behaviour by the former video star.

Land guarding, which involves the use of armed groups to illegally seize or protect disputed lands, continues to pose a major security challenge in parts of Accra. The police say intensified operations are ongoing to curb the menace.

All six suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
