The Ghana Police Service has rescued a nine-year-old girl who was reportedly abducted from Agormanya Zongo in the Odumase-Krobo District of the Eastern Region, leading to the arrest of a 36-year-old woman suspected to be behind the incident.

According to the Eastern Regional Police Command, the breakthrough followed a complaint filed on Sunday, April 19, 2026, by the girl’s father after she failed to return home.

Swift investigations and intelligence-led operations by the Odumase-Krobo District Police, with support from operatives at the Kotoka International Airport, led to the arrest of the suspect, identified as Regina Mamle Tawiah, on Monday, April 20.

Police say the victim was intercepted at the airport, where initial findings indicate the suspect was allegedly attempting to fly her out of the country to Kenya.

The child has since been safely reunited with her family.

The suspect appeared before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court on Tuesday, April 21, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court remanded her into police custody, with proceedings expected to continue on May 5, 2026.

Authorities are urging the public to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities, especially those involving children, as efforts continue to clamp down on child trafficking and related crimes.
