New Patriotic Party has announced the constitution of seven Standing Committees and 23 Sector Committees as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s internal structures, deepen policy development, and reposition itself ahead of future political contests and national governance responsibilities.

The decision was taken during a joint meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council held on May 7, 2026.

In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said the newly constituted committees would provide strategic direction, expert guidance, and leadership across key sectors and thematic areas.

According to the statement, the Standing Committees were formed in line with provisions of the party’s constitution, while the Sector Committees were established to support effective policy coordination, stakeholder engagement, and efficient management of the party’s affairs.

The NPP noted that the restructuring forms part of broader efforts to strengthen its organisational capacity and position the party as a credible alternative government with practical solutions to Ghana’s socio-economic challenges.

As part of efforts to promote unity and inclusiveness within the party, all four defeated flagbearer aspirants have been assigned leadership roles as co-chairpersons of key policy committees.

The party’s newly established Policy Committee, which will oversee policy formulation and coordination across various sectors, will be chaired by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, former Minister for Information and Works and Housing.

Dr Kwasi Nyame Baafi will serve as Secretary to the committee, with responsibility for coordinating research, technical input, and administrative activities.

The committee is expected to supervise sector-specific policy groups focusing on employment, energy, education, health, transport, decentralisation, the economy, natural resources, and other priority sectors.

Under the new arrangement, former presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong has been named Co-Chairman of the Employment and Jobs Policy Committee, reflecting his advocacy for private sector growth and entrepreneurship.

Former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong will co-chair the Housing and Urban Development Policy Committee, while former Minister of State for National Security Bryan Acheampong has been appointed Co-Chairman of the Defence and Interior Policy Committee.

Former Education Minister Yaw Osei Adutwum will serve as Co-Chairman of the Education Policy Committee, where he is expected to contribute his experience in educational reforms and policy innovation.

The party says the committees will engage experts, stakeholders, and industry players to develop evidence-based policy alternatives for consideration by the party leadership and eventual approval by its flagbearer.
