The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has revoked three mining leases held by Adamus Resources Limited following confirmed breaches of Ghana’s mining laws.

In a statement dated April 26, 2026, the Ministry said the decision affects the Akango, Salman and Nkroful concessions. The action follows investigations by the Minerals Commission, which uncovered widespread illegal and unauthorized mining activities.

Key Violations

According to the report, Adamus Resources Limited:

  • Subcontracted mining operations without obtaining required ministerial approval
  • Operated without valid permits or approved mining plans
  • Failed to secure necessary clearances from regulatory bodies, including the Environmental Protection Agency
  • Allowed foreign nationals to engage in illegal small-scale mining, commonly known as “galamsey”
  • Conducted mining outside designated areas and below acceptable operational standards

The investigations also pointed to serious environmental damage, including land degradation and risks to water bodies, public health and local livelihoods.

Legal Basis for Revocation

The Ministry said the decision is grounded in provisions of Ghana’s mining laws, particularly the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), and its amendments. It stressed that the violations were deliberate and significant enough to warrant immediate action in the public interest.

Possible Criminal Charges

Officials indicated that the revocation does not prevent further legal action. Adamus Resources Limited, along with its directors and management, may still face criminal charges under the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act, 2019.

Government Assurances

The Ministry assured affected workers that steps will be taken to protect legitimate jobs and livelihoods. It added that further measures will be announced in due course.

Reaffirming its stance, the Ministry emphasized government’s commitment to protecting Ghana’s natural resources and intensifying the fight against illegal mining.
