Former Minister of Information, Fati Abubakar, has cautioned Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh following his directive to suspend the Chief Executive Officer of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo.

The suspension, announced after KATH temporarily halted emergency admissions, has sparked backlash and triggered industrial action by doctors and nurses, heightening concerns about healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show, Fati Abubakar urged the Health Minister to exercise restraint: “I will caution the health minister to take his time; he should try and step on the brakes. It’s an honour for young guys to be given an appointment, but we should try to avoid over-exuberance.”

She stressed that staffing and infrastructure challenges at hospitals are the responsibility of government, not doctors.

“Understaffing is not the responsibility of doctors, it is government who recruits health professionals. Doctors don’t buy beds; it is the duty of government to provide infrastructure,” she added.
