The Accra High Court has ordered the remand of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, after he allegedly failed to comply with a key condition attached to his bail.
The court’s decision followed findings that the politician had not surrendered his passport as directed when he was granted bail in connection with an ongoing criminal case. Abronye DC was not present in court when the ruling was delivered.
Abronye DC is standing trial on a charge of false publication brought against him by the State.
He was granted bail by the High Court last month after previously being remanded into custody following his appearance before the court. Among the conditions of his release was an order requiring him to deposit his passport with the court.
The prosecution informed the court that the bail condition had not been fulfilled, prompting the judge to revoke the bail arrangement and order his immediate remand in police custody.
The case forms part of ongoing legal proceedings against the NPP regional chairman, with the substantive matter expected to continue before the Circuit Court.
Further hearings are anticipated as the court seeks to determine the merits of the false publication charge.
