The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has facilitated free cataract and other eye surgeries for more than 200 residents under a major healthcare intervention aimed at improving access to eye care in the constituency.
The surgeries are being carried out in partnership with the Ghana Eye Project 2026, following a constituency-wide screening exercise conducted last month, during which over 800 residents were examined for various eye conditions. Patients diagnosed with conditions requiring surgery were subsequently selected for the procedure.
As part of the intervention, beneficiaries will also receive free prescription eyewear, medication, and post-operative care to support full recovery and ensure continuity of treatment after surgery.

The programme is being delivered at no cost to patients, with the MP covering the full expenses of the surgeries and associated medical services as part of efforts to reduce preventable blindness and improve healthcare access in the constituency.

Organisers say the initiative is expected to restore sight for many beneficiaries and significantly improve their quality of life, particularly for residents who would otherwise be unable to afford treatment.
Madam Ewurabena Aubynn expressed appreciation to volunteers across the constituency whose efforts, coordination, and commitment have contributed to the smooth implementation of the exercise.

The partnership with the Ghana Eye Project 2026 highlights ongoing efforts to expand access to essential healthcare services and address avoidable vision impairment within Ablekuma North.
