The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has engaged 3,379 young people in various employment and skills development programmes across the Volta Region between June and December 2025.

Presenting the figures to the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), the Volta Regional Director of YEA, Hon. Daniel Hamenu, said the numbers reflect a clear shift in the government’s approach to youth employment compared to what he described as years of neglect under the previous NPP administration.

According to Mr. Hamenu, the Volta Region was denied its fair share of opportunities during the eight years of NPP rule, particularly under key youth-focused interventions.

“During their eight-year tenure, only a little over 100 youth were employed in the Volta Region under the Community Protection Assistants programme,” he said. “In contrast, within just six months, we have deployed 626 young people as CPAs alone. That period was marked by ghost names and promises that were never fulfilled.”

He explained that the recent engagements span several YEA modules, combining temporary employment with skills development to improve the long-term employability of beneficiaries.

Mr. Hamenu said the current interventions are part of the John Dramani Mahama-led government’s Reset Agenda on youth employment and empowerment. The agenda, he noted, is focused on tackling youth unemployment, equipping young people with marketable skills, and strengthening public service delivery at the community level.

He assured the Council that the Agency remains committed to transparency and fairness in beneficiary selection and will continue to work closely with regional and local authorities to expand opportunities for young people across the Volta Region.
