The Director-General of the Signals Bureau, Dr. George Atta Boateng, has warned that individuals who use social media platforms to spread false information aimed at inciting unrest will be tracked and prosecuted.

Speaking at the inauguration of a newly commissioned Signals Bureau facility in Koforidua on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Dr. Atta Boateng revealed that the Bureau is stepping up its monitoring of online platforms such as TikTok and Facebook to detect and contain misinformation campaigns in real time.

“I must also say that those who hide behind TikTok and Facebook to spread misinformation and disinformation to incite violence or chaos, we will come after you no matter where you are,” he cautioned. “Initially, it used to take us 24 hours, but now it is down to 12 hours. Our records speak for themselves.”

He urged citizens to verify information before sharing it, stressing that the deliberate circulation of falsehoods poses a serious threat to national stability and public safety.

Dr. Atta Boateng explained that the new Koforidua facility is part of a broader effort to enhance the Bureau’s intelligence-gathering and response capabilities. The facility is equipped with advanced technology to improve detection speed, data processing, and coordination with other national security agencies.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the National Security Coordinator, COP Osman Abdul Razak, disclosed that more than 10,000 CCTV cameras have been installed across the country as part of a national security upgrade designed to deter crime and improve surveillance.

“The NSB has roaming cell towers across the country. As we speak, we have 10,000 CCTV cameras nationwide, and we intend to expand this surveillance to further deter crime,” COP Abdul Razak said.

He added that the Eastern Region will play a central role in the next phase of Ghana’s security architecture. “The data and capabilities generated by this asset will be analyzed in this very facility, making Koforidua a key component of our national security network,” he noted.

The inauguration of the new Signals Bureau facility marks another milestone in government’s efforts to modernize national security operations through advanced technology, real-time intelligence, and improved coordination to safeguard public order.
