The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has directed senior officers who supervised the recent recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium to step aside pending investigations into the stampede that claimed six lives and left several others injured.

Military sources say new commanders have been appointed to oversee the exercise when it resumes. The decision, according to the sources, aims to ensure transparency and protect the integrity of the ongoing probe.

The tragic incident occurred during a nationwide recruitment drive that attracted thousands of hopeful applicants to the El-Wak Stadium in Accra. Witnesses reported that overcrowding and confusion at the entry points triggered a stampede as people rushed to gain access to the venue.

The military has not disclosed the names of the affected officers or provided a timeline for the resumption of the exercise. However, officials say measures are being reviewed to prevent a recurrence of the tragedy.
