Accra, Ghana – The Accra Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Eastern Regional Police Command, has arrested seven suspected members of a notorious highway robbery syndicate believed to be responsible for a series of violent attacks across the Greater Accra, Eastern and Ashanti regions.

In a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Accra Region, and issued on Saturday, January 10, 2026, the police said the arrests followed intelligence-led investigations into a robbery incident that occurred on November 29, 2025, at a residence in Peduase, Aburi.

During that attack, the suspects, who were reportedly armed with firearms, robbed occupants of mobile phones, jewellery and an unspecified amount of cash.

According to the police, officers from the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, working with their Accra Regional counterparts, arrested one of the suspects, Kofi Ishmael, on January 6, 2026, at Avenor in Accra. During interrogation, Ishmael admitted his involvement in the robbery and identified Kwame Bediako, also known as Star Boy, as the ringleader of the gang.

Acting on the intelligence, police arrested Bediako at Ablekuma Agape. A search conducted at his residence led to the recovery of a pump-action gun concealed in a fence wall, together with four BB cartridges. He reportedly confessed to his involvement in several robbery cases.

Further investigations revealed that the syndicate had carried out multiple highway robberies targeting motorists and trailer drivers along major routes, including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum, Nkawkaw, and the Juaso–Kumasi stretch. Police indicated that the suspects were preparing to embark on another robbery operation at the time of their arrest.

So far, seven suspects have been arrested and are currently in police custody, with one receiving medical treatment. Those arrested include Salia Mohammed, also known as Kwaku Nuah, aged 27; Kofi Ishmael, also known as Ishmael Addo or Kofi Ketewa, aged 32; Kwame Bediako, also known as Star Boy or Nkokorpor, identified as the gang leader; Kwadwo Kalovi, also known as Aticho; Mumuni Abdul Razak, also known as Mogambo, aged 39; Kwasi Akambuley, also known as Kwasi Fresh, aged 27; and Kwame Bonsu, also known as Killer Ntua.

Police investigations have also linked the suspects to several previous robbery cases, including attacks on market women and motorists, as well as a fatal robbery incident in which a driver lost his life. Some of the suspects are reported to have jumped bail in earlier cases currently pending before the courts.

Exhibits retrieved include firearms, ammunition, machetes, knives, mobile phones and other items suspected to be proceeds of crime. Investigations are ongoing to arrest remaining accomplices who are still at large.

The Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to combating crime and urged anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest police station.
