Police in the Central East Region have arrested 33 suspects and impounded 45 motorbikes following a series of early-morning anti-crime operations carried out ahead of the Christmas season.

The intelligence-led swoops, conducted on December 16 and 17, targeted crime-prone areas including Kasoa Old Market, Awutu Breku, Gomoa Buduata and Senya Breku. The operations form part of efforts by the Central East Regional Police Command to tighten security before, during and after the festive period. During the raids, police retrieved substances suspected to be Indian hemp, quantities of tramadol and a toy gun. Officers also impounded 45 motorbikes, which are currently undergoing verification and documentation checks.

Police say the suspects are being screened as investigations continue, and those found to have committed offences will be prosecuted.

The Regional Police Command has also issued a safety advisory to the public as the festive season approaches. Residents have been urged to avoid carrying large sums of money, move in groups especially at night, and stay away from secluded areas when alone. Motorbike riders have been reminded to wear crash helmets, while all road users have been cautioned against drunk driving, speeding and ignoring traffic regulations.

The Command expressed appreciation to community members and stakeholders for their cooperation throughout the year, and commended police officers in the region for their commitment to maintaining law and order. Police have assured residents that security measures remain in place to ensure a peaceful and crime-free festive season, warning that anyone who engages in criminal activity will be arrested and made to face the law.
