Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to uphold unity and protect the party’s legacy as preparations intensify for the party’s flagbearer elections scheduled for January 31, 2026.

In a Christmas message to Ghanaians and party supporters, Mr Afenyo-Markin reminded members of the sacrifices made by the founders of the NPP and urged them to conduct themselves in a manner that preserves the party’s long-standing traditions.

“As we prepare for our upcoming flagbearer election next year, let us treat one another and our cherished tradition as sacred,” he said. “What our forebearers put together through their sweat and blood, let no party member put asunder.”

The Minority Leader cautioned against actions that could deepen internal divisions, especially as the party works to recover from its disappointing performance in the December 2024 general elections.

“Let us not act in any way that would destroy the unity, credibility and moral authority of our party,” he stressed.

His appeal comes at a time when the NPP is undertaking internal reforms, including the decision to hold early presidential primaries, as part of efforts to reorganise and reposition the party ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The NPP has officially set January 31, 2026, for its presidential primaries, a move party leaders say is aimed at rebuilding confidence, cohesion and electoral strength.
