President John Dramani Mahama has signed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill into law, clearing the path for the nationwide rollout of one of his administration’s flagship economic policies.

The bill was passed by Parliament on February 6 after days of debate, following its submission to the House at the end of 2025. With the President’s assent, the legal framework is now in place to operationalise the policy.

Central Coordinating Body Established

The new law establishes a 24-Hour Economy Authority, which will serve as the central body responsible for coordinating and overseeing the implementation of the policy across the country.

The Authority is expected to work closely with key government agencies, private sector players and other stakeholders to ensure that economic activities run efficiently around the clock. The focus will be on strengthening production, expanding service delivery and encouraging businesses in multiple sectors to operate beyond traditional working hours.

From Vision to Action

The 24-hour economy policy is designed to reshape Ghana’s economic structure by promoting continuous productivity and unlocking new opportunities for growth.

President Mahama described the signing as a decisive moment, saying it signals a shift “from strategy to implementation.” He emphasised that the policy is anchored on job creation and aims to open up more employment opportunities for Ghanaians.

With the law now in force, attention turns to how quickly the Authority can begin work and translate the policy’s vision into measurable economic outcomes.
