President John Dramani Mahama has granted a two-year extension to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno. The decision follows a recommendation from the Police Council.

The extension allows IGP Yohuno to remain in office as the Ghana Police Service continues its reform agenda and strengthens national security operations. Sources say the move is intended to maintain continuity in policing strategy and consolidate progress made under his leadership.

IGP Yohuno, appointed earlier this year, has received praise for boosting police visibility, improving crime response systems, and expanding community-policing initiatives nationwide. He was originally due for retirement in December 2025.

Although an official announcement is yet to be made, the extension will enable him to continue guiding key security programmes, modernisation projects, and capacity-building efforts within the service.
