The Kumasi High Court has sentenced Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, popularly known as “Taacum,” to life imprisonment after a seven-member jury, by a five to two majority verdict, found him guilty of murder.

Inspector Twumasi was convicted for the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maadwoa, near her residence at Adum in Kumasi on April 20, 2023. The incident sparked national outrage and reignited public concern about gun violence and professional misconduct within the security services.
Although the police officer initially confessed to the shooting, he claimed it was not intentional. He later pleaded not guilty, which led to a full trial before the jury. After almost three years of legal proceedings, Justice Rosemond Baah Tosu delivered the final judgment on Friday, October 24, 2025.
Family members of the late Victoria Dapaah, who crowded the courtroom, expressed relief and gratitude after the verdict was read. Her mother, Adwoa Nyarko, thanked the media for their consistent coverage of the case and described the ruling as long-overdue justice for her daughter.
Victoria Dapaah, aged twenty-six, was allegedly shot and killed by her boyfriend, Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, on April 20, 2023, at Adum, just a few metres from her residence. During his first court appearance, the police officer admitted to shooting his lover but maintained that he did not intend to kill her.
Investigations by the prosecution revealed that the incident followed a disagreement over a five-thousand cedi debt. The police officer had reportedly demanded repayment from the deceased, and when she failed to do so, he allegedly shot her, leading to her death.
