A fire that broke out near the Royal VVIP Bus Terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra has been successfully contained by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), preventing further damage to nearby shops and residential structures.

The incident occurred on the night of January 2, 2026, and was reported to the Fire Service at about 8:40 pm, triggering an immediate emergency response.

Although the fire engine at the Circle Fire Station was unavailable due to a technical fault, the GNFS swiftly escalated the situation to Fire Master Control, which deployed firefighters from the Industrial Area Fire Station as the first responders. The team arrived at the scene at approximately 8:50 pm to find two shops near the bus terminal engulfed in flames.

Additional support was provided by crews from the GNFS National Headquarters and the Accra City Fire Station, enabling firefighters to bring the blaze under control within 18 minutes of arrival. Their prompt action prevented the fire from spreading in the busy and densely populated area.

The fire was completely extinguished at about 11:22 pm. Two shops were badly affected, although only partial damage was recorded to the items inside.

The cause of the fire has not yet been made public, and no injuries were reported.
