Seven suspects have been arrested in the Eastern Region following a police operation that led to the recovery of three stolen vehicles believed to be linked to an organised car theft syndicate.
The suspects were apprehended by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team after investigations into the theft of an unregistered blue Hyundai Elantra reported stolen in Nkawkaw on May 25, 2026.
According to police sources, intelligence gathered during the investigation led officers to a suspected hideout at Roman Down, near Asamankese, where the stolen vehicle was traced.
A joint operation involving the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team and the Police Intelligence Directorate resulted in the arrest of the seven suspects and the recovery of the stolen Hyundai Elantra.
During a search of the premises, officers also discovered two additional stolen vehicles, bringing the total number of recovered cars to three.
The recovered vehicles, comprising Hyundai Elantra and Hyundai Sonata models, have since been impounded by the police as investigations continue.
All seven suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators with enquiries into the thefts and the activities of the suspected criminal network.
Police say efforts are underway to identify other members of the syndicate and trace additional vehicles believed to have been stolen and concealed by the group.
The latest operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to combat vehicle theft and dismantle organised criminal networks operating across the country.
Investigators have indicated that further arrests may be made as the case develops.
