The Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association (CSSMA) has thrown its support behind the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, praising his leadership amid growing public debate over Ghana’s gold sector policies.
The endorsement comes in the wake of criticisms from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority over the reported 214 million dollar loss linked to the Gold-for-Reserves programme.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 31, and shared with Instigatoronline.com, the Association said the creation of GoldBod was intended to bring structure, fairness, and greater national value to the artisanal and small-scale mining sector. It added that under Mr. Gyamfi’s leadership, the core objectives of the initiative are gradually being realised.
According to the CSSMA, the GoldBod Chief Executive has shown a strong sense of national responsibility, disciplined management, and a clear appreciation of the role small-scale miners play in Ghana’s economy. The Association noted that his leadership has helped rebuild trust between miners and the state through regular engagement and open dialogue, ensuring that policies reflect conditions on the ground.

The Association also commended Mr. Gyamfi for championing fair and transparent pricing in the purchase of gold from small-scale miners. It said this policy has improved miner incomes, reduced exploitation by middlemen, and encouraged the sale of gold through approved channels, helping to strengthen compliance and stability within the sector.
CSSMA further noted that GoldBod’s operations have contributed to increased foreign exchange earnings by formalising gold purchases and reducing leakages. According to the Association, these gains have supported the cedi, eased inflationary pressures, improved the balance of payments, and boosted investor confidence, all contributing to broader macroeconomic stability.
The statement also highlighted Mr. Gyamfi’s efforts to tackle gold smuggling, particularly plans to introduce a comprehensive system to trace gold from source to sale. The Association said such a system would help curb illicit trade, safeguard state revenue, and restore integrity to the gold industry.
Beyond the economic impact, the CSSMA said effective traceability would deliver environmental benefits, including reduced illegal mining, protection of water bodies, improved land reclamation, and the promotion of responsible mining practices that protect communities and natural resources.
The Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association reaffirmed its full support for Mr. Sammy Gyamfi and pledged to work closely with GoldBod and other stakeholders to help realise President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of a well-regulated, transparent, and nationally beneficial gold sector.
