The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa (Esq.), has outlined new strategies to promote growth and unity across the Bono Region. He announced during the Bono Regional Coordinating Council Meeting held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in Sunyani.

The meeting brought together Municipal and District Chief Executives, Presiding Members, traditional leaders, and heads of departments. Newly appointed council members were also sworn in to officially begin their duties.

The Reset Agenda for Bono Region

Hon. Akwaboa said his leadership would be guided by President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda. The initiative aims to ensure inclusive growth, infrastructure improvement, and better living conditions for all.

“The people of the Bono Region deserve improved living standards,” he said. “Let us remain one people with a common destiny to move forward.”

He urged stakeholders to work together regardless of political affiliations, stressing that unity and collaboration are essential for progress.

Maintaining Peace and Security

The Minister praised the region’s security agencies for maintaining peace despite isolated cases of robbery and drug-related crimes. He encouraged them to remain vigilant to sustain the calm environment necessary for development.

Tackling Chieftaincy Disputes

Hon. Akwaboa expressed concern over the growing number of chieftaincy disputes, especially in Sampa. He called on the Regional House of Chiefs to speed up mediation and help restore stability in affected areas.

Major Development Projects Underway

Several key road projects are currently underway under the government’s Big Push program. These include the Alaska–Odumase, Fiapre–Catholic University, Jinijini–Sampa, Sunyani–Techiman, and Berekum–Seikwa–Nsawkaw roads.

He said construction has started on some of these roads, while others will begin before the end of the year.

Advancing Education and Health

The Sunyani Teaching Hospital now has full legal backing through a Legislative Instrument. This move paves the way for the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) to begin operations for its medical school.

GETFund is also supporting classroom and dormitory construction across the region, while 300 students have received scholarships to pursue higher education.

The Minister added that new CHPS compounds and water facilities will soon be built to improve access to health care and clean water.

Boosting Agriculture and Job Creation

Under the Feed Ghana and Nkokonkitinkitin projects, Bono Region is expanding opportunities for youth in agribusiness. Dormaa Central and East districts are already taking part in poultry farming projects that provide day-old chicks, feed, and cages to farmers.

Combating Illegal Mining

The Regional Security Council has conducted successful anti-galamsey operations in Banda District. Eleven excavators and 31 motorbikes were seized, and 15 Chinese nationals were arrested and repatriated.

The Minister warned that the crackdown will continue and that anyone aiding illegal mining will face the law.

Preparing for the 24-Hour Economy

As part of the 24-Hour Economy initiative, the Ministry of Local Government has requested land for new modern market centers across all 12 assemblies in the region. The proposal is under review for implementation.

A Call for Collective Effort

Hon. Akwaboa ended his address with a call for teamwork, accountability, and innovation in governance.

“Our duty is to make government policies deliver real benefits for our people. Together, we can make Bono a model region for inclusive development,” he concluded.
