The Asante Mampong Traditional Council has formally introduced Leslie Osei Bonsu to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as the nominee to succeed the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II as Mamponhene.

The introduction took place on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace, where the kingmakers presented Mr Osei Bonsu as the next occupant of the Amaniampong Silver Stool. He was accompanied by the Mamponghemaa, Nana Agyakoma Difie II, and the Adontenhene of Asante Mampong Traditional Area and Ejurahene, Barimah Osei Hwedie II.

Mr Osei Bonsu is a senior software architect and geospatial systems strategist. The Council explained that he had successfully gone through all required traditional processes and was being officially introduced to the occupant of the Golden Stool in line with custom. As part of the ceremony, traditional schnapps were presented to the Asantehene to signify respect and adherence to customary rites.

Addressing the gathering, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II directed the kingmakers to agree on a suitable date for the enstoolment of the nominee and to ensure he undergoes the necessary traditional and customary education.

“He will swear allegiance to you, and you will also swear allegiance to him,” the Asantehene stated.

Otumfuo, however, cautioned that enstoolment alone does not confer authority to rule, stressing that the nominee must first swear allegiance to him before assuming full responsibilities.

“The enstoolment does not give you power to rule until you have sworn allegiance to me,” he emphasised.

During the proceedings, the Asantehene disclosed that he had received an objection petition from the Botaasehene, who claimed he had been sidelined in the enstoolment process. Otumfuo said the matter had been brought before him and resolved, and instructed that the petitioner be formally informed of the outcome.

Attention was also drawn to the absence of the Akwamuhene from the delegation. The Council explained that he was unwell and receiving medical treatment abroad. Otumfuo directed that he be informed to make himself available during the swearing of the oath of allegiance by the nominee, warning that failure to do so would be interpreted as abdication of his position.

The introduction follows the resolution of a succession dispute that had delayed the process. Leaders of the Traditional Council had earlier appeared before the Asantehene and the Asanteman Council on December 15, 2025, where the matter was settled, clearing the way for the succession process to continue.
