Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya and former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has denied claims that she has defected from the camp of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to that of Kennedy Agyapong.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Adwoa Safo described the rumors as false, baseless, and without merit. She said at no point has she shifted her support or political allegiance from Dr. Bawumia, whom she continues to respect and admire.
Press Statement
Disclaimer on False Publication by The Insight Newspaper
My attention has been drawn to a recent publication by The Insight Newspaper. The paper alleged that I, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, have switched allegiance from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.
I wish to clearly state that this claim is false, misleading, and malicious. It was fabricated to create confusion within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and among my supporters.
At no point have I made any public or private statement suggesting that I have withdrawn my support for Dr. Bawumia, the current leader of our great party. Such publications are not only mischievous but also a deliberate attempt to sow division and destroy the unity we are building after the 2024 general elections.
For the avoidance of doubt, I remain fully loyal to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and committed to his vision for the NPP and for Ghana. Dr. Bawumia has shown strong leadership, humility, competence, and resilience even in difficult times. I believe he is the best person to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections and return the party to power.
Leadership transitions always come with challenges. However, blaming one person for our 2024 electoral outcome is neither fair nor helpful. Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to the NPP and to Ghana cannot be questioned. Every committed servant deserves a chance to serve and lead again.
I also urge the media, especially The Insight Newspaper, to stop publishing false and unverified stories. Responsible journalism requires fairness, accuracy, and truth. These principles should not be ignored in the pursuit of sensational headlines.
I call on The Insight Newspaper to retract the false publication immediately and issue a public apology. This will help to set the record straight.
The unity and progress of the NPP remain my priority. I will continue to support Dr. Bawumia and every effort aimed at strengthening the party, rebuilding public trust, and preparing for victory in 2028.
Signed:
Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo
Former Member of Parliament
Dome-Kwabenya Constituency
