The Government has announced a nationwide cleanup campaign for Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, as part of efforts to restore communities affected by the recent floods.
The exercise, being held under the theme “Our Actions, Our Future: Cleaning Ghana after the Floods,” is expected to bring together government institutions, security agencies, waste management companies, local assemblies, and members of the public to improve sanitation and reduce the risk of future flooding.
Government has directed all political appointees, including Ministers, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, and other local government officials, to take active leadership roles by participating in and coordinating cleanup activities within their respective jurisdictions.
The exercise will be carried out in two phases.
On Friday, July 10, personnel from the security services, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), and waste management companies will undertake the initial cleanup operations, focusing on heavily affected areas.
The second phase will take place on Saturday, July 11, when the general public will join the exercise to extend the cleanup across communities nationwide.
Key activities will include desilting choked drains, removing debris from roads and public spaces, clearing refuse, and improving drainage systems to help mitigate the impact of future heavy rains.
To ensure the success of the exercise, local assemblies have been instructed to work closely with waste management companies to provide the required logistics and equipment, while ensuring that all collected waste is transported promptly to approved disposal sites.
The initiative forms part of the Government’s broader response to the recent flooding, with authorities urging all residents to participate actively in keeping their communities clean and resilient against future disasters.
