The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has signalled a strong push to recapture political ground ahead of the 2028 general elections, with Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin declaring that no seat currently held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should be considered secure.

He made the remarks on Wednesday, March 18, while addressing executives of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) in Parliament, where he called for stronger grassroots mobilisation and renewed commitment from party supporters.

According to the Effutu MP, the NPP has a realistic chance of returning to parliamentary majority status, but only if members remain disciplined, loyal and active at the base of the party.

“If elections are held today, NPP will be the majority, but that will also require hard work and loyalty. We do not doubt in our minds that you will take up the mantle,” he said.

Mr Afenyo-Markin also took aim at the current administration, accusing it of falling short on some of its major promises to Ghanaians. He pointed to what he described as delays in implementing the proposed 24-hour economy policy, the failure to raise cocoa producer prices, and recent increases in utility tariffs.

He further urged TESCON members to challenge narratives suggesting that the NPP excludes certain ethnic groups, insisting that the party remains open and representative of all Ghanaians, regardless of background.

At the same event, Akuapim North MP Samuel Awuku echoed the call for an aggressive electoral strategy, saying the NPP would target every constituency held by the NDC.

“We will be joining our colleagues to storm the campuses. The 2028 election is all play, all play, no NDC seat is safe. We will approach every NDC seat like a normal seat,” he said.

The comments form part of the NPP’s early efforts to energise its support base and position itself for a highly competitive 2028 election.
