Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commended the Presidential Election Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he described as an impressive and transparent preparation process ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31.

In a statement issued on Friday, January 9, after receiving a briefing from the Committee, the former president expressed satisfaction with the progress made in organising the internal election. He noted that the planning and execution so far have been guided by clarity, openness and strict adherence to democratic principles.

According to Akufo-Addo, the Committee’s strong commitment to transparency has strengthened confidence in the credibility of the exercise and helped protect the integrity of the process. He stressed that fairness and trust among all stakeholders have been central to the Committee’s approach.

“The Committee’s work, thus far, has been nothing short of impressive. Key milestones achieved on the principles of zero-tolerance for opacity have ensured transparency and guarded religiously the sanctity of the process,” he stated.

The Presidential Election Committee is chaired by former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu. His leadership has been widely praised within the party for promoting inclusiveness, fairness and strict compliance with party regulations throughout the preparations.

Party sources say the conduct of the Committee reflects the NPP’s broader commitment to internal democracy and accountability as it moves toward selecting a flagbearer for the next general election.

With the January 31 primary drawing closer, Akufo-Addo’s endorsement is expected to further boost confidence among party delegates, aspirants and the general public in the credibility of the process being managed by Joseph Osei-Owusu and his team.
