Two people have been confirmed dead and 21 others injured following a road accident on the Assin Fosu–Kumasi highway on the night of January 1, 2025.
The crash occurred around 9:00 pm when a bus transporting members of the Believers Worship Centre, also known as Second Chance Church, was returning from a 31st Night crossover service in Kumasi to Assin Fosu and Breman Asikuma. The bus, which bore Methodist Wesley Church inscriptions, reportedly ran into a group of people engaged in a street parade at Assin Dansame.
Among those who lost their lives was a 21-year-old apprentice and student of Sunyani Technical University identified as Maame Yaa. Another victim, whose identity is yet to be released, also died on the spot.
The 21 injured persons sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to several health facilities within the region for treatment.
The incident triggered anger among some residents, particularly the youth, who vandalized the bus and left it completely wrecked. Police officers were later deployed to the area to restore calm.
Confirming the incident, the Central North Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department Commander, ASP Wonder Lumor, said investigations have been initiated to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.
