The High Court has ordered that the first witness in the corruption case against former Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining secretary, Charles Bissue testify in-camera, after prosecutors warned that revealing his identity could put him at serious risk.

Bissue and two others are facing charges of corruption and abuse of office. Prosecutors say they bypassed procedures of the Inter-Ministerial Committee to benefit a company that investigators later deemed unqualified.

The case began after a media investigation sparked public outcry and led to a formal complaint to the Office of the Special Prosecutor, which then arrested the three and opened its probe.

All the accused have pleaded not guilty. Their lawyers also pushed back against a separate request from prosecutors to allow the investigative journalist behind the exposé to take the stand.

The court adjourned the matter to 12 January 2026 for the start of the full trial.
