President John Dramani Mahama has launched the Vegetable Development Project at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region as part of the Feed Ghana Initiative, describing it as a key intervention to boost food security and expand irrigation across the country.

Speaking at the launch on Thursday, November 27, the President said the project includes the construction of a modern packhouse to handle grading, sorting, packaging and cold chain management for vegetables produced through the initiative.

He assured farmers and stakeholders that the facility will be completed within 12 months.

“This Vegetable Development Project will be replicated in many other parts of the country, especially in the north, where water availability is a major challenge at certain times of the year,” President Mahama said.

He emphasized that improving vegetable production is not only essential for food supply but also for job creation. According to him, the government is working to build the foundation for a 24-hour agricultural economy that will support the growing workforce and promote sustainable development.

Traditional leaders, farmers and project partners attended the ceremony and expressed optimism that the initiative will increase productivity and income levels within the Ahafo farming communities.
