Members of the Ghana TVET Service under the Public Services Workers’ Union have declared an indefinite strike action effective March 24, 2026, over unresolved concerns with management.
The union, in a notice addressed to the Director-General of the Ghana TVET Service and dated March 13, 2026, directed all its members to withdraw their services until their grievances are addressed.
Strike Follows Failed Engagement
According to the union, the decision to embark on strike action follows management’s failure to engage meaningfully on issues raised by members. The union referenced an earlier letter dated March 10, 2026, stating that despite drawing management’s attention to their concerns, no concrete and satisfactory steps had been taken to resolve the issues.
The union explained that the strike had become necessary due to what it described as management’s delay in addressing the concerns affecting staff.
Union Open to Dialogue
Despite the industrial action, the union indicated that it remains open to dialogue and is willing to engage management to resolve the matter. It urged management to treat the issues with urgency and seriousness in order to bring the situation under control.
The union also advised its members to remain calm, disciplined, and law-abiding throughout the strike period. It further warned against any form of intimidation or victimisation of members and urged affected staff to report such incidents to union leadership.
Impact on TVET Operations
The strike is expected to affect operations within the Ghana TVET Service, particularly training and administrative activities across various technical and vocational institutions in the country, until an agreement is reached between the union and management.
