Six members of the National Democratic Congress have picked nomination forms to contest the party’s parliamentary primary in Ayawaso East, as preparations intensify toward the March 3 by-election.
Among those seeking the party’s nod are the NDC constituency chairman, Mohammed Ramme; Hajia Amina Adam, wife of the late Member of Parliament; Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal; and Dr Yakubu Azindow. The others are Najib Mohammed Sani and Salam Daru.
Speaking on the Citi News Digest, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Rashid Tanko Computer, described the contest as keenly competitive, noting that interest in the seat has been strong.

He said nominations officially closed with six aspirants picking forms, adding that Hajia Amina Adam was the last to do so. According to him, the next key step in the process is the filing of nomination forms, scheduled for Tuesday, January 27.
“We are waiting to see how many of them will eventually submit their forms,” he stated.
The Ayawaso East parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of the sitting MP, Mahama Naser Toure, on January 4, 2026, after a short illness. Parliament subsequently declared the seat vacant, paving the way for the Electoral Commission to fix a by-election for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in line with constitutional requirements.
