President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, visited two Ghanaian survivors of the recent terrorist attack in Burkina Faso who are currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

The two victims were part of a group of Ghanaian tomato traders travelling on a truck that was ambushed by armed assailants. According to reports, the attackers allegedly lined up the male passengers and shot them before setting the vehicle ablaze.

President Mahama, who was accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, interacted with the survivors and expressed his condolences over the tragic incident. He assured them that the government would fully absorb their medical bills.

The President had earlier been in Takoradi on official duty but proceeded directly to the hospital upon arrival in Accra to obtain first-hand information about the attack and the condition of the victims.

Seven Ghanaians who lost their lives in the incident have since been buried. The survivors were transported back to Ghana by the Ghana Armed Forces and are currently undergoing counselling alongside medical treatment for injuries sustained during the attack.

Government officials say the affected individuals are receiving the necessary support as efforts continue to provide care and assistance to them and their families.
