The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested two suspected drug traffickers and seized more than 1,600 parcels of substances believed to be narcotic drugs during an intelligence-led operation along the Akosombo–Tema road.

According to a police statement issued on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the operation followed intelligence received on January 10 indicating that a large consignment of suspected narcotics was being transported from the Volta Region towards Tema. Officers subsequently mounted surveillance along the route, focusing on the Agomeda Junction area.

At about 12:45 a.m. on January 11, police intercepted two vehicles, a white Toyota Highlander and a black Mitsubishi Pajero, suspected to be conveying the illicit substances. The vehicles were driven by Isaac Odo, 33, and Kwame Mani, 39.

A search of the vehicles uncovered several compressed yellow-wrapped parcels believed to contain narcotic drugs. The suspects were arrested on the spot, and the vehicles were impounded for further investigations.

On January 12, the suspects and the exhibits were handed over to the Tema Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID), where an inventory and photographic documentation were conducted. Police confirmed that a total of 1,613 parcels were retrieved, with 872 found in the Mitsubishi Pajero and 741 recovered from the Toyota Highlander.

The suspects remain in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. Samples of the seized substances will be sent to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for analysis, while searches are expected to be carried out at the suspects’ residences. Arrangements are also underway to arraign them before court.

The Tema Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to clamping down on drug trafficking and other criminal activities and has encouraged the public to continue providing credible information to support security operations.
