John Dramani Mahama has announced that more than one million Ghanaians secured employment in 2025, describing it as a major boost to the country’s economic recovery and job creation drive.
Speaking on February 27, 2026, the President disclosed that about 950,000 citizens also moved out of multidimensional poverty within the same period. He said the figures reflect deliberate policy choices aimed at expanding opportunity and reducing inequality across the country.
According to him, the gains were driven by targeted government interventions, aggressive job creation strategies, and the expansion of Ghana’s flagship 24-hour economy initiative, which is designed to keep businesses operating beyond traditional working hours and open up new employment avenues.
Strong External Sector Performance
President Mahama also pointed to improvements in Ghana’s external sector, revealing that the country recorded a current account surplus of 9.1 billion dollars by December 2025. This marks a significant rise compared to the 1.8 percent recorded in 2024.
He attributed the performance to increased export earnings from gold, cocoa, and non-traditional exports, alongside a notable rise in remittance inflows. The President said these developments demonstrate Ghana’s growing resilience amid global economic uncertainties.
Sustaining the Momentum
Describing Ghana as one of Africa’s emerging economic success stories, Mahama stressed that job creation and poverty reduction remain central to his administration’s agenda.
He underscored the need for sustained investment, stronger international partnerships, and continued support for local industries to consolidate the recovery.
The President urged citizens to remain committed to the country’s development efforts as government pushes forward with infrastructure modernization, private sector growth, and policies aimed at building a more inclusive and competitive economy.
He expressed confidence that the recovery underway will continue to deliver tangible benefits to households and businesses nationwide.
