Former Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam says the New Patriotic Party is reorganising and positioning itself for a strong comeback in the 2028 general elections, following Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s victory in the party’s presidential primaries.
Reacting to the outcome of the contest, Dr Amin Adam stated that the results demonstrate renewed unity within the NPP and provide a solid foundation for the party’s next national campaign effort.
Dr Bawumia secured the flagbearer slot with 56.48 percent of valid votes cast by delegates. His closest challenger, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, placed second with 46,554 votes, representing 23.76 percent.
Speaking to journalists at the NPP national headquarters on Saturday night, January 31, 2026, Dr Amin Adam said the scale of support for Dr Bawumia reflects broad internal confidence in his leadership and direction.
He noted that the party now has a clear mandate and adequate time to reorganise its structures, heal internal divisions, and prepare for the next electoral contest.
According to him, the primary outcome should serve as a rallying point for party faithful across all factions to close ranks and focus on the larger national objective ahead.
Dr Amin Adam also delivered a direct political message to the governing National Democratic Congress, cautioning that the NPP will be a formidable challenger in the next election cycle.
He said the party intends to rebuild momentum and take the fight to its opponents, expressing confidence that the NPP will return to power after the next polls.
His remarks add to growing calls within the party for reconciliation and coordinated mobilisation following the conclusion of the internal race.
