
Leading figures of the governing National Democratic Congress turned out in large numbers for the one-week observance of the late Andrews Kwame Amankwah, father-in-law of Ghana Gold Board CEO Sammy Gyamfi.
The solemn ceremony brought together party executives, government appointees, sympathisers and members of the public, all gathered to mourn with the bereaved family.
Among those present were the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, National Chairman of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the party’s General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey. The First Lady led a delegation of government officials to pay their respects, while Mr. Asiedu Nketiah arrived with other members of the party’s national executive to show solidarity with the family.

Mr. Amankwah was reportedly killed in a robbery attack, an incident that has sent shockwaves through the family and drawn condolences from sections of the political community.

Burial Scheduled for May 30
It was also announced during the observance that Mr. Amankwah will be laid to rest on May 30, 2026.
The funeral is expected to attract a broad cross-section of political leaders, journalists and community members, reflecting both the prominence of his family ties and the deep sympathy surrounding his tragic death.
The large turnout at the one-week observance underscored the close-knit nature of the party’s leadership and the support extended to Mr. Gyamfi and his family during this difficult period.
