The safety of motorists and residents in the Mfantseman Municipality is finally being addressed following months of concern over the deteriorating Baifikrom bridge. A high-level delegation inspected ongoing emergency works at the site today, which serves as a vital link connecting several districts.

The Baifikrom Bridge connects the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly, Ajumako District, and Assikuma Odoben Brakwa. Locals have long described it as a “death trap,” warning that continued weakening could lead to a major accident. The threat extends beyond transportation, as some residents fetch water from the river directly beneath the unstable structure.

On March 31, the Mfantseman NADMO Director, Hon. Abeiku Nyankson, accompanied by officials from the National Security team, visited the site to oversee temporary measures designed to stabilize the bridge.

Speaking to our correspondent Isaac Dadzie, Hon. Nyankson emphasized that while repairs are ongoing, safety remains the top priority. He cautioned drivers to strictly follow road signs and warning signals along the stretch, noting that ignoring them could lead to avoidable accidents during the repair period. He also underscored the bridge’s importance to the surrounding districts.

Beyond the bridge, Hon. Nyankson highlighted broader disaster prevention measures as the rainy season approaches. NADMO plans to desilt choked gutters across the municipality to reduce the risk of flooding.

The inspection signals a proactive step by local authorities to safeguard lives and prevent further crises in Mfantseman.
